Description

The IV-27 (ИВ-27 rus.) is a Soviet multi-digit vacuum fluorescent display (VFD) tube. It is designed for alphanumeric information display in clocks, measuring instruments, and other devices. It has a distinct blue-green glow when illuminated.

The tube has 26 pins in total — 15 on the left side and 11 on the right side.

  • Anode voltage: 24V (nominal), up to 45-50V pulsed
  • Grid voltage: 24V (nominal)
  • Cathode voltage: 5.15V
  • Cathode current: 160mA
  • Grid Current: 1.9mA
  • Anode current: 1.5 mA (2.5mA pulsed)
  • Heater voltage: 3.0-3.5V (nominal ~3.3V)
  • Heater current: ~150-220mA

The minimum operating time is not less than 10000 hours.

All 13 digits share the same segment lines (a–g, dp). To display different characters on each digit, the controller must rapidly switch between digit grids (using multiplexing) . This requires high-voltage drivers for both segments and grids. Recommended driver: MAX6921AWI – a VFD driver chip that can handle 13 outputs for grids and segments . For the IV-27M: The heater and anode circuits must share a common ground — otherwise no current will flow. A typical supply chain: 12V wall adapter → 3.5V step-down (for heater) + 24V boost (for anode / grid) .

Many DIY projects are built on Arduino or ESP32 platforms.

⚠️ Important: The IV-27 and IV-27M have different pinouts and are not directly interchangeable. Always verify pin assignments for your specific model before wiring.
